We communicate effectively when we listen. While listening, we clarify what we have heard and ask for more information. By clarifying, we help the speaker to understand what we have heard and at the same time, help the speaker articulate what was said. As a result, communication occurs and the speaker feels heard, respected and valued. This listening wins us the opportunity to assert, tell what is important to us, how we feel and state what we would like to see happen, moving forward.
